ABOUT IMPANDE CORE

Impande Core, the name says it all, the core of the root. The band is made up of various talents who all hail from Johannesburg. They are abstract yet easy on the ear type of sound, the compositions are catchy, lyrical, soulful and raw in sound. They have accomplished a lot and have gained popularity with the locals because of their electrifying stage presence. Their sound can be aptly dubbed, Innovative Ghetto Funk or as we like to call it, Carrot Funk.
The band is made up of talented and unique individuals: Smash Mfula on vocals, Nyameko Nkondlwane on Trumpets and Sax, Nkuli “Snazz” Biyana on Bass, Mali Vilakazi on drums and the electrifying sounds of Ntsiki Matshatshe on guitar.

Impande as they are often called, have had their fair share of upheaval disasters but what makes them so professional in this field of work is the acceptance to the difficulties that come with the entertainment industry and their passion and resilience. There are a countless number of bands that would jump at the pleasure of opening for some of South Africa’s musicians. Impande Core had the opportunity to share the stage with the likes of internationally acclaimed Blk Jks, Sibongile Khumalo, Judith Siphuma and songstress Simphiwe Dana. Impande Core launched their first music video in 2009 for their hit single “ What about you “ the song was so big it even made it on the air waves and was part of the playlist of Johannesburg well acclaimed radio station Khaya Fm.

Currently Impande host a residence at Club Zen in Maboneng Precinct, where they play every Sunday night. Impande also perform at various events around Johannesburg. 2014 will be a very busy year for the band with the release of an EPK, music videos and later on in the year, their long anticipated first album.

THE CONVERSE GET OUT OF THE GARAGE COMPETISION

The competition encourages artists from all across South Africa to upload their demos to SoundCloud or YouTube and then submit them to Converse.
In 2012, folk sensation Matthew Mole was crowned the winner, and in 2013, the talented Jordi won the title of Converse Get Out Of The Garage.
For 2014, Converse is looking to get more unsigned musicians out of the garage and into a studio to record their own tracks right here in South Africa.
From the May 19 until the June 15, musicians got the chance to upload demos to Sound Cloud or YouTube video on this link.
Converse are mixing it up this year by bringing Rubber Tracks to the country to work with the Top 10 finalists, meaning that for the first time ever, the Top 10 will have a world-class single produced by experienced engineers, with the finest instruments and equipment.
So if you’re a raging rocker, folk fundi, hip-hop hipster, or any other musical muse, Converse wants to hear your sound.

Returning judge and 5FM DJ, Catherine Grenfell will be joined this year by hip-hop legend, HHP. Owner of Openroom Productions, Darryl Torr, will also enter the mix, as one of SA’s most acclaimed producers. South African music fans can vote for their favourite until August 3.
The winner will then be announced on August 5, before heading off to New York City to record another track with Rubber Tracks, followed by more globetrotting to perform live in Europe.
